What is the EN131 standard and why does it matter?

EN131 is a European committee for standardisation (CEN) harmonised standard for portable steps and ladders, and covers minimum safety requirements.

Werner ladders are required (and designed) to meet the EN131 standard, which since Jan 2018 in the UK covers all portable ladders with two classifications: Professional and Non-Professional.

Ladders classified as Professional are suitable for trade and light industrial use as well as heavy duty and industrial use, while Non-Professional ones are suitable for domestic use.

The standard includes tests for load capacity (150 kg in many cases), stabilisers, slip-resistance, etc.
